What happens if I go over a million pageviews?
We email you. Nothing else happens.
The allowance is 1,000,000 pageviews and custom events a month between them, per account, pooled across every site you’ve added. You get emails at 70%, 85% and 100%. There’s no overage rate in the system, no automatic upgrade, and no tier above 100% - those numbers are the entire ladder.
One full month over the limit costs nothing at all. Not a charge, not a warning beyond the emails, not a lost row of data.
If you go over for two consecutive complete months, we send an email asking you to reply, with a 14-day deadline on it. Reply - say “we had a launch”, “we’re growing, what now”, anything at all - and the timer stops permanently. A human reads it.
Only if nobody replies in 14 days does the dashboard lock - the same lock a lapsed payment reaches. Even then:
- Collection never stops. Events keep arriving and keep being stored the whole time. The log line in our own code says so: dashboard locked for volume - collection continues.
- Nothing is deleted, throttled or sampled away.
- Export still works, and so do settings and billing.
- Getting back in range unlocks you immediately, not at the next billing date.
The month in progress never counts toward “consecutive months”, so nobody gets locked on the 3rd for a month that’s barely started.
What counts toward the million is pageviews and custom events, including the outbound clicks, file downloads and form submissions the script fires on its own. What doesn’t: the custom properties you attach, however many; the engagement pings behind time-on-page and scroll depth, because you can’t turn those off; and goals, funnels, sites and seats.
Consistently past a million? Email sales and we’ll sort out something that fits. We’d rather do that than invent a surprise invoice.
